my musings

Im drifting in and out of consciousness within my day to day life, at work at home, wherever, and so im doing this to real myself back in(see what i did there, i used the term real instead of what it should be; reel...how smart of me. I feel that if that can make me feel 1% better then why not). I had a thought some time ago that i or even we from a macro perspective are driving ourselves demented as we let ourselves become embedded within the modern ideals; the roles of modern living, the worker, the employee, the partner, the holy man, the man, and we end up loosing who we really are because of our commitments to what we believe or are told are stable positions to 'be' in the modern world.  This may be my own anxiety but im sure it resonates with others.

I feel and fear that in the long term that we can become demented as we push ourselves onto these positions and much of it is really just to please others and I, we need to get out of it. That thought itself raises a big question that im sure not all of us ask "how much of what I do is to please others?".  Empathy is a force for good, sure but we can if we look hard enough differentiate that from that which drives us to to do for others what they will not do for us.

what if this dementedness that I mentioned is real and we are infact loosing our minds as we choose to focus on fulfilling those roles in place of what we really are.  There will likley be some literature availble in biological & cognitive science out there that will wrong my suggestions here and I for one will probably return to the point ive made later on in this book as I aim to look at the facts around dementia, but here and now its just a hunch and a feeling. It may not be worth worrying about but its a thought which returns to me time to time.

And I said 'cheers' to an atm machine yesterday as it gave me £10 and so this does not help matters.
